I haven't been participating in the Blog Party so far because I've been so busy blogging about other things. Today the topic looked interesting, so I thought I'd participate.
And the question of the day is... Do you shop on Black Friday? What time do you start? Do you finish all your shopping on that day? What’s the best deal you have found? What’s your shopping strategy?
I did shop on Black Friday last year. Jordan and I went to Wal-Mart, and left Suzi with my parents. I don't remember much of what we bought; a bunch of toys we don't have anymore. We did get some great deals on DVDs for gifts. They were like $3 each, and they were the best deal we found. We were out in the crowds by about 5 or 6 am. We did not finish our shopping that day, because there honestly wasn't enough stuff at Wal-Mart that I wanted to give people. I like to diversify a little. And we didn't have a shopping strategy. Basically, we went for the thrill of the hunt.
We won't be going this year. Frankly, I think it's pretty silly how a bunch of grown people can get so worked up over a bunch of junk. Of course, it may be worth fighting through the crowd for a digital camera or a Wii or something, but one lady actually blocked me out of the clothing section with her shopping cart. I wonder what she wanted in there so badly that she had to be such a rude jerk! Black Friday seems to bring out the worst in people, and last year all the misguided shopping we did resulted in me never really getting that Christmas feeling. You know what I mean?
On Sunday we are going to an Alternative Gift Fair in Greenville, and I'm excited about that! Basically, you give donations to different charities to help people in a specific way, and then give your recipient a card explaining how their gift helped someone. My favorite was a teddy bear "companion" for an abused child who has to go through a forensic exam. Those only cost $10, and I honestly can't think of a better way than that to spend a ten dollar bill. Can you? I'd love to help comfort a frightened child for Christmas!
While you are here, be sure to enter my contest to win some Glow Mama Drinks!

I agree 100% with you about Black Friday. I love that alternative fair. What a great thing to participate in. Each year, my parents just ask us to pick something for them from Heifer International. Morgan loves picking out a different animal each year.
That alternative fair sounds awesome- what a wonderful way to decrease the materialism of the holidays!
I agree with Mult-tasking Mama, that alternative fair does sound awesome...
I have friends who live in Greenville, SC so I emailed to let them know about this fair! Thanks for sharing!
what an awesome event!
what a creative and selfless gift!
hubs was a juvenile detective before we had kids. after, he just couldn't take it. he called home one night to tell me he was going to be late, and i kept hearing a little voice laughing. i asked him who it was, and it was a little girl he had to interview. he was letting her play and ransack his desk because he just didn't want to ask her what he had to, so was prolonging it and trying to love on her a little, since she obviously wasn't getting that at home.
That sounds like a great thing to do.
I am right there with you on the Black Friday thing, or any big sale for that matter. Thanks for reminding me about your blog!
I can't get everything at one place either
One common and frustrating problem in some shopping carts is that they don't show you what's in your electronic basket automatically. Instead, you have to find and click on the shopping cart icon. Finding shipping costs are often impossible without checking out, and some shopping carts require a shopper to register contact information before making any purchase.
