*Updated w/ winner* Baby sling giveaway!

We had 88 entries total (one by email because she couldn't comment, and the last comment was a few minutes late--sorry!) And the winner is...

Here are your random numbers:

Timestamp: 2008-11-02 13:19:44 UTC

Mrs. Sara! Gosh, a (different) Sara won my last giveaway! Weird. Sara, I will be emailing you in a minute. I'll need you to measure yourself and also send me fabric choice and an address. If Sara doesn't email me within four days I'll pick another winner.

If you didn't win, don't be sad. You can probably learn to make these slings yourself! I love these ida.net directions, and also Jan Andrea's for making reversible slings. Here is my post on making them. If you can thread a sewing machine you can probably make one, and it only takes an hour or two. If you've never used a pouch sling before, it would be best to start by watching an instructional video on how they work in general. Having an understanding of the sling's purpose makes the project much easier.

I will be having a November contest, but I'm not sure what it'll be, so check back soon!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's that time again... The Bloggy Giveaways Carnival is here!
I'm giving away one sling which I will make myself. I haven't made it yet because I'm going to let the winner email me measurements and fabric choice. (So it may take a week or so longer than usual to ship, but I'll do my best.) Above is an example of one sling I've made. I am also working on a batch of slings to send over to No Mother Left Behind! It's an organization that hooks families up with slings when they can't buy or make one for themselves. I encourage you to visit their site and consider donating.
Here are the different fabrics I can use to make the sling:
Please note: #3 is a sort of faux suede, and #4 is flannel (the same one I'm wearing above).
I can make a Daddy sling too. Probably the navy or khaki option would be best for a dad.
To win:
1) Please leave a comment telling me your favorite brand or style of carrier. If you don't know yet because you're still pregnant and/or don't have any carriers, tell me that too!
2) If you want you can also tell me the fabric you'd like for your sling, but it isn't required. We can do that later when a winner is chosen.
3) It makes me a bit nervous, but I'm going to go ahead and say I'll ship this sling anywhere :-)
4) You don't have to be a blogger to win, but please leave an email address! You may want to type it as somebody (at) somewhere .com to foil the spambots.
5) The contest will end at 11:59 pm Saturday, November 1st and I will select the winner randomly. I'll email the winner (and post here) and if she has not responded with shipping information within four days I will pick someone else.
6) I have plenty of fabric in most of the choices, but depending upon the winner's measurements one or more of the selections may be precluded. I will request a first and second fabric choice from the winner.
Good luck to everyone, and may we all win something!
Your sling is beautiful! I think the carrier I liked the best for my baby, when she was an infant, was the Snugli. We had the option of both my husband and I wearing it, and it unclipped in the front to allow me to lay her down when she was asleep without waking her. I never had a homemade sling, but it looks awesome!
I don't have a favorite carrier right now, because we outgrew the little kangaroo style carrier. I did make a DIY sling out of a sheet earlier this year while on vacation. It was my favorite at the time! Thanks for offering a great giveaway!
very sweet,I love no.4.
I love our Ergo! :o)
I would pick fabric for a Daddy sling, so he can wear his little boy proudly (my pouch sling is kinda girly looking!)
I think I like #7 or #8 best for the fabric. I haven't ever really used a carrier. I am pregnant now with our third baby and the oldest won't be three until after the new baby is born, so I think having a sling this time around would be REALLY helpful, since I only have two hands! Great giveaway, thank you for the chance to enter!
i don't have a fav sling! i have 2 i got from walmart and i hate them so i am looking for another one!
I don't have a favorite sling. My first daughter loved whatever I put her. My second daughter (4 months) is not liking anything. I recently bought a Hotsling from Ebay. It's working ok but she's about too fat for it. Gotta love that breatmilk. Makes for fat little ones. : )
I love your sling! I can't say I have a fave because I only ever tried a hotsling and I think I got it a size too small because it seemed super tight and awkward. I am really wanting to try again with this baby coming but I am afraid of wasting money on one again.
Anonymous said...
Love your slings! I LOVE pouch slings but currently only have one that fits. The pouch is what I use most often, but I also have some wraps and an Ergo that I like to use occasionally. But the pouch goes everywhere with me!! I like the dark blue fabric- blue is my favorite color. :)
Your sling is great. I have a six month old and want a sling for either her to use, if not too big or for baby #2. As for slings we have the Jeep carrier, it is okay, my back begins to bug using it. We also have i believe evenflow hipster carrier. A bit better for my build, but not perfect.
I am a sling addict. I'd love to have another one! Starting Saturday, I am reviewing a bunch of different slings on my blog. I think my favorite sling is the New Native Carrier. Never tried one until Ben was born so I was kind of surprised I liked it so much. I really like my Hotslings, too, but this pouch is not as deep.
Beautiful sling! I've only ever used a padded ring sling but I'd love a style meant to carry an older baby as my lil one is already 8 mons. I love #1 fabric but I'm not picky!
Anonymous said...
I have never had a sling before but I'm thinking I want one. I have a 6 month old who is about 16 lbs or so...but I've seen some where you can kinda carry older babies sitting on your hip or on your tummy. If you think this would work and I win I'd love one...but if you think it wouldn't be good for an older baby then I'll pass this on to someone else. Thanks!
I've always wanted to try a sling- we have the snugli and it works but not so good on the back sometimes
Dineen said...
My favorite was a DIY sling I made from an old t-shirt, just a tight tube of knit fabric. It only fit when my daughter was a newborn, but I love how compact it was and how snug it kept her to me. Now we use a ring sling I bought from Dr. Sears website. It has some great features, but it was only one size and I think I could have been more comfortable in a larger sling with more tail.
Thanks for having this giveaway. I have always wanted to have a sing but I have no idea what style I would like. We are pregant with our second child and I am already anticipating the need to have a sling to make it through some of the crazier days! All the fabrics are beautiful but I think I would like to have one made of a cotton flannel(im not picky). I would just be so blessed to win! Thanks
I LOVE baby slings. I have one that I bought with my first daughter (who's now almost 5) and I got it from Rockin' Baby Slings. It was a lifesaver with my past two babies, but I don't know if it will last through my next little one on the way.
Your sling is beautiful and I'd love the chance to enter the giveaway!
SAHW said...
I am pregnant now and very confused by the many types of slings/wraps/carriers!
I like your choice of fabrics and the idea for a daddy sling...this is especially important for us since we're expecting two, so we'll both need to be wearing babies at the same time sometimes!
Do not have a sling. I am blessed with two good arms that are starting to fall off my body, I think.
If you could send a pattern I could make one. Otherwise, if I win, any cotton fabric would be good. Color or solid is fine.
Thank you.
Your sling is beautiful. I'm kind of bias with my favorite sling because it's the only kind I've ever tried but I love my maya wrap. My baby is 17 months old and I still use it!
How pretty! My favourite sling to date is my trusty ring sling, given to me by a friend in Singapore. She got it at momsinmind.com
I'm pregnant with my 1st, and due in January. I would love to win a sling! I've done a lot of research, and can't decide between the ring slings and the pouch slings, so I may just have to try both!
I'm due any day now with number 4 (!) and I've never used a sling. However, my SIL is a strong baby carrying advocate and she uses a hotsling for her 18 month old. It looks a lot like the one you're wearing in the pic. And I went to a baby boutique in the city and tried on a bunch of slings and decided to buy the K'tan for our soon to arrive newborn.
I have a hotsling that I like. I am not sure it's the right size though as it's a little uncomfortable. I really like your patterns!
I use a mobe wrap so far, although I think a sling would be nice for quicker transitions for things like going shopping.
Linda said...
Lovely sling. I'd choose fabric 7 if I won. :)
My fav carrier is a MT - but my daughter finds the straps too fidley when trying to wear her daughter so maybe a simple sling would work better for her. I'd love for her to try one.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I can't even think of what the carrier I have is called. All I know is that my daughter hates it! I have been wanting to try a sling for awhile. I like fabric 8.
I have a Baby Bjorn. It has worked wonderfully for my infants, but once they reach about 5 months it just doesn't work anymore. The baby is too big. I was just thinking the other day, as I was carrying my 1 year old around the house (she's a clingy one) that a sling would be fantastic! Crossing my fingers!
rebecca said...
I have a ring sling that I made. It's nice, but it was my first effort and is way to long and wide! I would love to win this. Handmade carriers are so nice. I love my sling and if I had one that was less girly (even though mine is plain, it just has a silver thread running through it) my husband would wear it more! Thank you so much for the opportunity.
We used a Snuggli sometimes with the little man, but I've always wanted something a little easier to get into, but didn't get my hands on the other types of slings until little man was like 8 months old (too old to learn to sling, imo). This time around though we know better what we're doing and know that we'll definitely need to sling the baby with a toddler running around!
I've used the New Native Sling for my son since he was tiny. However, now that he's bigger it doesn't feel like it fits right with him in it. I would love a ring style sling so that I can keep carrying him around. I love "baby wearing".
I have used a ring sling and an Ergo...as well as a baby bjorn. I loved them all for differnt reasons and purposes but never really liked the Bjorn. The Ergo was great for hiking or travelling, the ring sling great for at home or shopping. My son outgrew the Bjorn when he was about 3 months old...so it never got much use and he never really liked it.
Hi there~
I am a sling addict! I love the #4 print you have on...its looks earthy..very granola!
I have 6 kiddos the oldest is 14 and the baby is 1 year.(Oct 4)
I have used Nojo for a long time with my first child. I then switched to a Over thr Shoulder Baby Holder. I loved that one, but sadly miss placed it.
I now use a Sling Ezee. I realy love it and would order another one but money is tight.
I still breast feed and use the sling in church and at the store, (my baby will not stay seated even if I strap her in the buggy.)It is great to cover up with during nursing.
I hope I win the new sling!
Peace in Christ,
Georgiann
We hated every carrier we tried. My sister made me a wrap (just a REALLY long piece of fabric) and it worked great for us when our little one was a baby. The best carriers are homemade, in my opinion.
